Song Stuck In My Head This Week - 27th February '11 - My Lithium & Me/David Bowie - Lady Grinning Soul

it was a chilly autumnal night when, at the birthday party of a mutual friend, I first heard My Lithium & Me (a.k.a. Leah Kardos) first perform 'Lady Grinning Soul'. As our friend, like us, was a Bowie fan she had put together a set of her own take on Bowie songs and the haunting quality of her performance of 'Lady Grinning Soul' was just captivating.

Since then she has continued to do her own take on Bowie songs at various parties until she decided to turn these casual, fun performances into a project. The end result is My Lithium & Me's 'You Can't Hide The Beat', a set of six amazing Bowie covers that are free to download from the website http://youcanthidebeat.com/ as well as some fantastic videos for several of them, and I do encourage you to watch the wonderful video for this song, animated by the talented Izzy Foster.

The songs from this project have been on loop on my mp3 player this week as I soak in every single piece of these songs. From the subtle samples from other Bowie songs to the wonderful vocal harmonies the six tracks are just such a wonderful treat for the ears and everyone should give them a listen.

My only hope is that this is just the beginning for My Lithium & Me and that there will be more to come in the future, whether it is more Bowie or some original material, as it would be a shame not to hear more from this seriously talented young lady.

Hope you all enjoy this week's song and I'll catch you all next week!!

My Lithium & Me/David Bowie - Lady Grinning Soul

She'll come, she'll go. She'll lay belief on you
Skin sweet with musky oil
The lady from another grinning soul

Cologne she'll wear. Silver and Americard
She'll drive a beetle car
And beat you down at cool Canasta

And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room
Touch the fullness of her breast. Feel the love of her caress
She will be your living end

She'll come, she'll go. She'll lay belief on you
But she won't stake her life on you
How can life become her point of view

And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room
Touch the fullness of her breast. Feel the love of her caress

She will be your living end
She will be your living end
She will be your living end
She will be your living end
She will be your living end
